The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu has again charged Nigerian youths to take up the gauntlet in the fight against corruption.

Magu made the charge on July 1, 2019 during an enlightenment and sensitization campaign on the Role of Youth in Curbing Corruption at NYSC Orientation Camp, Okada, Edo State.

The anti-graft czar, who was represented by Williams Oseghale, Head, Public Affairs Department, Benin Zonal Office, EFCC, said that the youth cannot afford to stand aloof at the critical times as their contribution to the fight against corruption remains vital.

“As young people you cannot afford to be mere spectators, we need your active participation in the anti-corruption campaign,” he said, and urged them to “enlist as foot soldiers and to join hands with the Commission in the fight against corruption”.

The EFCC boss posited that young people hold the key to the successful fight against corruption and so, urged the Corp members to be good examples in their areas of primary assignment.
He bemoaned the involvement of some young people in criminal activities, especially advance fee fraud and cybercrimes.

“Rather than channel their energy and talent into noble and profitable ventures, some unscrupulous youths have decided to choose the evil part by getting involved in internet fraud and cybercrimes,” he said.

He however, affirmed the resolve of the Commission to continue with its crackdown on fraudsters “because of the damage they do to the Nigerian economy”.
