The Tottenham Hotspur stadium, which cost £1 billion, is opening six months behind schedule and will see Spurs take on London rivals Crystal Palace on Wednesday night

Tottenham have injury problems for their first game at their new stadium against Crystal Palace on Wednesday night.

Serge Aurier (hamstring), Eric Dier (hip), Erik Lamela (hamstring) and Fernando Llorente (concussion) are all out.

Harry Winks has returned to training, with boss Mauricio Pochettino set to make a decision as to whether the England midfielder will be fit to start the historical game.

Pochettino is excited for the club’s opening game in their new home.

He told a press conference previewing the game: “I think it is going to be very special.

“The new stadium is a reality. It’s an exciting moment in the history of the club. Everyone is going to realise the magnitude of the project.

“It is amazing, an exciting moment and a special moment for (chairman) Daniel Levy. He started the idea and delivered the project.”

He remains hopeful that Champions League football will grace the stadium next season.

“The best stadium in the world must play in the Champions League,” Pochettino added.

“It will be a shame not to be in the next Champions League. We are going to fight. I have no doubt we will be in the Champions League next season.

“We have seven games left, five here, and that has to give us a boost.”

Pochettino has given his backing to goalkeeper Hugo Lloris following his late blunder at Anfield on Sunday.

The mistake proved costly as Liverpool snatched a 2-1 win, but the Argentinian said: “He is my captain, he is one of the best keepers in the world. That is not in doubt.

“Hugo is one of the best and he is going to be in goal tomorrow.

“It is a situation that is so painful because we deserved more.

“We have to be strong and back our players. Hugo is going to be great for us and will be one of the most important players for the future of the club.”
