The Katsina State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Jibril Zarewa, has confirmed that three ad hoc staff had gone missing following the Saturday disruption of election in Danmusa Local Government Area of the state.
The REC said that some persons suspected to be political thugs had disrupted the election, and that everyone present had taken to different directions as they fled for safety.
โAfter the disruption of the election, people ran for safety. But, we are still searching for three ad hoc staff and we are optimistic that we shall find them,โ Zarewa told reporters on Sunday
Also, the state Police Command had, Saturday night, confirmed the abduction of the three ad hoc staff.
The Commandโs spokesman, SP Gambo Isah, also confirmed the death of a Police Corporal, Mannir Usman, and another employee of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Umar Aliyu.
Isah said, โOn 9/03/2019 at about 14:00hrs, patrol team on election patrol along Gobirawa Falale-Maidabino feeder road, Danmusa LGA of Katsina State, was ambushed by armed political thugs led by one Mani Doro, โMโ, aged 40 years of Dunya village, Danmusa LGA of Katsina State (now at large), as a result of which the driver of the patrol vehicle, F/No.504614 CPL Mannir Usman attached to Danmusa Division was shot dead by the hoodlums.
โThree INEC ad hoc staff on election duty were also kidnapped by the hoodlums.
โToday (Saturday), at about 13:00hrs, armed bandits attacked Santar Amadi village Polling Unit at Kankara LGA of Katsina State, shooting in the air and later pursued and shot a Civil Defense Officer CA2 Umar Aliyu on his chest. Victim died on the spot.โ
