A former governor of old Anambra State, Senator Jim Nwobodo, Saturday, said the worst form of corruption was to rig an election and subvert the will of the people.

This is as Archbishop Emmanuel Chukwuma cursed politicians who would engage in rigging during the 2019 elections.

Nwobodo who spoke shortly after casting his vote in his polling unit at Amechi Ward 2, Enugu South Council Area, stated there was no worse crime and corruption if someone would brazenly steal the mandate of the people in a democratic contest.

He said, “The worst form of corruption is not allowing people’s votes to count. When you don’t allow people’s votes to count, it’s very dangerous because this is a big country that will lead Africa. We have to entrench democracy in this country.

“There could be one reason. The best reason could be that there is no contest in Enugu State…In the country today, people are unhappy; that must have accounted for the voter apathy,” he said.

But Bishop Chukwuma, the Archbishop of Enugu Ecclesiastical Province, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), reacting to the elections, warned that God would make the seat ungovernable for any politician that would get to any leadership position through rigging and manipulation.

“The will of the people should be respected in these elections. INEC should know that these elections are put for people to choose leaders they want and not those INEC will rig into office. I am saying if it is not the will of God, whatever INEC has done will boomerang,” he said.

Also speaking, a former governor of Enugu State, Chimaroke Nnamani, said the elections afforded him and his people an opportunity to express their preference through the power of votes.
