The Labour Party in Ogun has asked the Election Petitions Tribunal in the state to nullify the March 9 governorship election over the alleged exclusion of its party’s name, logo and symbol on the ballot papers.

The party and its governorship candidate, Modupe Sanyaolu, who are the first and second petitioners in their petition marked EPP/06/GOV/02/2019, prayed the tribunal to order the withdrawal of the Certificate of Return issued to the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Dapo Abiodun.

The petition had the APC, its candidate Dapo Abiodun, Resident Electoral Commissioner AbdulGaniy Raji, and the Independent National Electoral Commission as first, second, third and fourth respondents respectively.

Abiodun was declared winner of the governorship election by the INEC, having polled the highest number of votes in the election held March 9, 2019 in the state.

The suit was filed by the secretary of the party in the state, Sunday Oginni, with two other members who signed as deponents on behalf of the party.

Copies of the petition and the motion ex parte were obtained by our correspondent on Tuesday.

The petitioners also prayed the tribunal to order the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct a fresh election within 21 days of its decision and include its logo and symbol.
