The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSDSC has commended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for its monitoring of the Presidential and National Assembly elections.

The Rivers State Commandant of NSDSC, Mr. M.L Haruna, gave the commendation on Wednesday, March 6, 2019, in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, while receiving the Port Harcourt’s Zonal Head of the EFCC, Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa who paid him a courtesy visit.

According to Haruna, โ€œthe monitoring of the elections by the EFCC was effective. Operatives of the Commission were everywhere in Port Harcourt and in all other cities. I received a call from our Corporate Headquarters in Abuja that I should work closely with you in Rivers State because of the effective manner the last elections were monitored by your Commission,” he said.

In his response, Bawa thanked the Commandant for the commendation and explained that the mood of the nation was responsible for the intervention of the EFCC.

“The mood of the country is responsible for our actions and we want to assure you that we will work more. Nigeria is the only country we have and we must ensure that right things are done all the time, he added. The EFCC is against vote buying and other criminal acts in the electoral processes. We will continue to insist that elections are transparent, free and fair and without any monetary inducement”, he said.

Bawa also sought the cooperation of the NSDSC in checking the menace of illegal oil bunkering and vandalism of oil installations in the South-South. He reiterated the commitment of the EFCC towards tackling oil theft and other financial and economic crimes.

“EFCC is one of the most cosmopolitan agencies in the country. We have to work together especially in the areas of illegal oil bunkering and vandalism. We are going to sustain the existing cooperation and take it to the next level”, he said.

It would be recalled that EFCC deployed its operatives to monitor the February 23, Presidential and National Assembly elections throughout the six geo-political zones of the country in the Commission’s bid to forestall vote-buying.
