Governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun, on Monday likened his remaining two months in office to the last lap of a long-distance race.

Amosun said the remaining two months were a period for him to draw more strength from within and gather more speed towards obtaining the medal.

The governor said this while speaking with newsmen shortly after inspecting some semi-urban roads under construction in the Ogun-East Senatorial District.

He described himself as a national athlete, representing the country in long-distance races such as 500 metres, 5,000 metres and 18,000 metres.

Amosun assumed office in 2011 and was re-elected in 2015.

His eight years in government would end on May 29.

His favoured successor candidate, Adekunle Akinlade of Allied Peopleโ€™s Movement, was defeated in the March 9 governorship poll.

As part of his efforts to ensure that none of the projects initiated by his administration was abandoned, Amosun led members of his cabinet, including Permanent Secretaries to inspect the Ijebu-Imushin/Owu-Ikija, Balogun-Kuku, Ikangba, Italapo, Degun and Oke-Aje Market roads.

โ€œAll the drainages are ready; we are now ready for asphalting.

โ€œAll our landmark projects, such as the 250-bed ultramodern hospital, the Judicial Complex, the Ogun State Television Complex, Ogere International Market, Ogun State Polytechnic, Ipokia and the Adire/Kampala Modern Market would be completed and inaugurated by President Muhammadu Buhari,โ€ Amosun said during the inspection tour.
