Major shake-up: Nigerian Army redeploys 21 Generals

The Nigerian Army has approved the redeployment of 21 General Officers Commanding, brigade commanders and others, saying the action is for greater efficiency.


A statement released on Sunday by the acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col Sagir Musa, said the army redeployed the commanders of 33, 23, 34, 16 and 14 brigades, among others.

The redeployments also affected senior officers at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, the National Defence College and the Headquarters, Command Army Records.

Musa said, โ€œThe army released the postings and appointments of some of its senior officers. Those affected by this include Maj. Gen. H.O. Otiki, who has been posted to 8 Division as General Officer Commanding; while Maj-Gen. S.O. Olabanji, the erstwhile GOC was posted to the Infantry Corps Centre and appointed as Commander, Infantry Corps.

โ€œAlso, Brig. Gen. H.I. Bature, from 34 Brigade was moved to Headquarters Training and Doctrine Command as Director, Examinations; while Brig-Gen. T.O. Olowomeye, was posted from Headquarters, 33 Brigade, to Army Headquarters, Department of Civil-Military Affairs as the director.


โ€œSimilarly, Brig-Gen. B.A. Mohammed was moved from 23 Brigade to Martin Luther International Peacekeeping Centre, and appointed Deputy Commandant; while Brig- Gen. U.M. Bello was redeployed from the Headquarters, Training and Doctrine Command, to 63 Brigade and appointed as commander. Also, Brig-Gen. M.T. Durowaiye was moved from the Directorate of Army Transformation and Innovation to 33 Brigade and appointed as the commander.โ€

The army said others affected by the posting were Brig-Gen. S.B. Kumapayi, who was moved to 14 Brigade as Commander; Brig. Gen. N.M. Jega posted to 9 Brigade and appointed commander; and Brig-Gen. K.O. Aligbe to Defence Headquarters as acting Director Liaison, National Assembly.

Other generals on the list are Brig. Gen. A.K. Ibrahim posted to Army Headquarters, Department of Administration and appointed deputy director, Veteran Affairs Department; Brig-Gen. G.O. Ajetunmobi posted to 31 Brigade as commander; and Brig-Gen. O.G. Onubogu posted to 16 Brigade and appointed as the commander.
