The Peoples Democratic Party candidate for the National Assembly poll in Shomolu Federal Constituency, Mr Oluwaseyi Olowu, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission not to hold the rerun in the constituency alongside the governorship and House of Assembly elections scheduled for Saturday.
Olowu, who addressed a press conference in Lagos on Wednesday, said it would be unfair for INEC to hold the rerun without considering the number of units where it would be held in the constituency.
He said, โWe were given 21 polling units where rerun will hold and the same INEC is preparing for 16 polling units. We are calling for a clarification and rerun for the APC and the PDP House of Representatives election to be separate from the governorship/House of Assembly elections to avoid some obvious ugly development again.โ
The PDP House of Representatives candidate said the February 23 presidential and National Assembly elections held in Shomolu constituency were a mockery of democracy and a slap on the people of the constituency.
โBefore the elections, the attention of the electoral officer was called to the missing sensitive materials which were not argued but it was shocking to note that these things were replaced with some other items between the time of removal and verification by the Central Bank.
โIn the early hours of the election Day, members of my campaign team were whisked away only to be released after the election. During the election, there was harassment by thugs, security agencies and the APC bigwigs who were openly carrying money to induce voters and INEC officials,โ Olowu said.
He, therefore, called on residents of Shomolu to come out on Saturday en masse and vote for candidates of their choice in the governorship/House of Assembly elections.
