The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu has urged the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to partner with the Commission to check incidents of vote buying in tomorrow’s nationwide gubernatorial and state assemblies elections.Magu made this appeal through the Zonal Head of the Commission in the South East, Usman Imam during a courtesy call on him by the Enugu State Commandant of the Corps, Chinwe Kannu in his office in Enugu.

Imam thanked the Commandant for the courtesy visit noting that the Corps has had a cordial and mutually beneficial partnership with the Commission over the years.“You have been very instrumental in securing a lot of national assets and in fact, I am aware that some of the seized assets by the commission are being secured by your office and that you also transfered some cases to us,” Imam said.

He declared that EFCC’s doors were always open and that he had also been mandated by the Acting Chairman of the Commission, Magu to partner with sister agencies for the good of the country. “We know we can achieve more if we cooperate and having activated the election mode, we solicit for intelligence from your side during this election period to checkmate incidence of vote buying.

”He told Kannu that the EFCC was ready and just a “telephone call away” to act on any information sent by NSCDC officials across the zone regarding vote buying.Earlier in her opening remarks, Kannu disclosed that she was mandated the Commandant General of the Corps, Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu to meet with Imam “as soon as I assumed office and solicit for closer partnership with you considering our mutual mandate of securing the nation’s assets.

”She further declared that she was ready to work closely with the EFCC in any area affecting the two organization’s mandates. Mrs Kannu was before her posting to Enugu, the state Commandant of the Corps in Ebonyi State.
