Governor of Benue, Samuel Ortom, on Friday, asked the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, to launch investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Mr Ogah Jumbo, an Assistant Superintendent of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, who was allegedly murdered in the presence of his wife and children by some police officers near Nyanya market, Abuja.
Jumbo was reported to have been killed by policemen while taking his wife to work.
His wife had accused the policemen controlling traffic near Nyanya of killing her husband after molesting and dragging him to their police station.
Ortom, who condemned the killing of the Benue State indigene, called on the IGP to ensure that the culprits were brought to justice.
He described the act as barbaric, heartless, and a violation of the sanctity of human life.
Ortom, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase, sympathised with Jumbo’s wife and kids who went through the trauma of watching their father being murdered in cold blood.
The statement read in part, “I wonder why officers of different security organisations, instead of collaborating to ensure a safer society, would engage in an act that would lead to loss of life of another officer.
“I want to use this opportunity to commiserate with the Jumbo’s family, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the people of Otukpo Local Government Area over the sad loss.”
