The District Head of Duhu and surrounding communities in Adamawa State, Mohammed Sanusi, said there were enough signs that the insurgents who attacked the neighbouring Michika on Monday night were after foodstuffs, cash and drugs.

Residents said the insurgents attacked the town from Kofar Borno and Kofar Adamawa, shooting sporadically with people fleeing into the bush. Many of the residents said that they slept in the bush while seven people were killed, although police said five civilians and 11 Boko Haram fighters lost their lives in the attack.

In an interview on Wednesday, the district head, Sanusi, said the Boko Haram fighters looted petrol stations, drug stores and food stores, adding that they left behind three vans containing foodstuffs and stolen items when the military repelled the attack.

He said, โ€œThe insurgents came in through an unusual route with several vehicles. They filled them with petrol and stole foodstuffs from stores.

They also looted drug stores which showed that they were looking for medicine for members.

They also attacked the Union Bank in the town but even though they blew the vault with dynamites, they could not go away with cash because from what we heard, a bullion van had come earlier to empty excess cash from the vault to the Central Bank in Yola.โ€
