President Muhammadu Buhari, on Monday, said that the Independent National Electoral Commission, must not take Nigerians for granted.

He said this at the All Progressives Congress National Caucus meeting holding in Abuja.

In the meeting, monitored on Channels Television, Buhari said, โ€œThe constitution and laws protected INEC but they must not take us for granted.

โ€œINEC had all the time and the all the resources, they had, they wanted and then to wait only for six hours to cancel the vote? Surely, the reason such incompetence manifested itself has to be explained to the nation.

โ€œAfter the election, we have to know what happened and who is responsible.

โ€œOtherwise, our efforts to make sure this system, we voluntarily accept is not making progress.

โ€œWhat is the use if we accept incompetence?

He added, โ€œIf for example, the National Assembly refused to approve what they wanted, then INEC could have some moral reasons, why it couldnโ€™t perform.

โ€œIf the time, constitutionally, four years after was not obeyed by the government and the system, INEC would have a case but we do not understand why this happened and we would have to go into details after the election, why this happened.

Speaking on his departure to Abuja on Saturday, President Buhari said he had to break his protocol routine to hasten his travel back to Abuja, after he was told about the postponement of the polls.

โ€œI had to leave my immediate constituency and come back to Abuja immediately because I was told of INECโ€™s decision at quarter to five in the morning.

โ€œThe way, security and other protocol mobilise people ahead and leave them behind, when Iโ€™m moving, all the same, I had to tell them, Iโ€™m leaving and I left.โ€
