Cyprus police on Tuesday arrested a second suspect in connection with an investigation into possible falsification of a medical card used by a first division team to field a newly signed foreign national.

Reports said the suspect is a 36-year-old woman but police did not immediately confirm this.

The issue emerged after Apollonas disputed Nigerian national Francis Uzoho’s participation in a game against Anorthosis on Saturday, February 2, which the Limassol side lost 1-0.

Uzoho, a goalkeeper, was acquired on the last day of the January transfer period.

Apollonas said Uzoho had only arrived in Cyprus on Friday afternoon, shortly before 4pm, and questioned how he could have had his health card issued about an hour after the offices of Cyprus Sports Organisation (KOA) closed on Friday at 2.30pm.

KOA cancelled the medical card, as reports suggested Uzoho had told police he was on the airplane on his way to Cyprus when the card was issued.

Following the appeal, Apollonas also reported to police that the medical card used was probably forged.

Police initially arrested Anorthosis deputy chairman Kyriacos Yiangou, a doctor who is suspected of signing the documents filed with KOA regarding the player’s health.

Yiangou was expected to be released Tuesday.
