Some yet-to-be-identified members of staff of Ikeja Electric have been assaulted by a resident of Itele area of the Iju-Atan Ilogbo Local Council Development Area of Ogun State while trying to disconnect power supply to his residence.

In a viral online video, the resident engaged one of the technicians in a fist fight before he rushed into his apartment to get a machete and attacked another of the technicians.

Despite pleas from fellow residents, the young man was seen in the footage beating the technician with the machete before he was dragged away by other residents.

Some residents could be heard appealing that the fighters should be separated, while a lady could also be heard saying that the duo should be left alone.

The Public Relations Officer, Ikeja Electric, Felix Ofulue, who condemned the attack, said investigations were ongoing on the matter and that the firm would explore all legal means to seek redress.

Ofulue said, “We strongly condemn the rising spate of attacks on our employees. It is simply unacceptable that they should be attacked while carrying out their legitimate duties. Security personnel are doing their job about it; investigations are ongoing and when the report is out, we will explore all legal means possible to seek redress and we won’t take it lightly.

“As a responsible organisation, we have provided multiple redress channels through which customers can express themselves. Even the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission has provided a forum for dissatisfied customers to further seek resolution. So, to brutally attack our people in this manner displays a total disregard for humanity, a situation that we will not take lightly.

“Our commitment to providing our customers quality service is sacrosanct; however, Ikeja Electric will spare no resources to bring to justice any person or group of persons, who take the law into their hands by inflicting bodily harms on any of its employees. We will go as far as the law permits as we are duty bound to do.”
