The Delta State Police Command has vowed to apprehend those behind the killing of the Special Assistant on Youths to the Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Lawrence Ijie alias Ngozi.
The 38-year-old was reportedly shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Ekpan community in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State on Friday night.
The state Commissioner of Police Yinka Adeleke, who met with area commanders and divisional police officers in Warri on Sunday, said they had begun investigations into the incident.
Acting spokesman for the police in the state Chuks Orisewezie said in a statement on Monday the CP had visited the scene of the crime.
“I visited the scene of crime, paid a visit to the Ekpan General Hospital where the survivor of the attack, who drove with the deceased in the same vehicle, is receiving treatment,” Adeleke was quoted by the statement as saying.
According to the police chief, they do not yet know the reason behind Ngozi’s killing.
He appealed to the public to give information that could help arrest the culprits.
Prior to Ngozi’s killing, some supporters of both the ruling Peoples Democratic Party and All Peoples Congress were allegedly locked in bloody battle in the area.
