Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu has charged lawyers across the country to join hands with the EFCC in the fight against corruption.

“The anti-corruption crusade needs your unalloyed support,” he said.

Magu gave the charge while receiving Osaretin Airhinenbuwa and Charles Omo Aideyan, Chairman and Secretary of the EFCC/Bar Relations Committee of the Benin branch of the Nigerian Bar Association, respectively, on January 18, 2019.

Speaking through Mailafia Yakubu, Head, Benin Zonal Office of the Commission, Magu called on them not to allow themselves to be used by politicians.

“One major problem we have so far encountered in the discharge of our duties as an anti-corruption agency is that some lawyers file frivolous injunction to frustrate cases as a delay tactic,” he said.

He therefore, urged them to put the interest of country above personal benefits and gains.

Airhinenbuwa, commended the EFCC for the recorded strides, and stressed that the body was seeking ways to further cement its collaboration and partnership with the anti-graft agency.

He said: “We want to ensure that there is a cordial relationship between the EFCC and members of the Bar in Benin. If there is any misconduct or whatever by one member, please let us know.”
