EFCC Arraigns Man for Contract Scam

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has arraigned one Hassan Idris of ldmuyus Integrated Services before Justice Darius Khobo of State High Court, Kaduna on a one count charge bothering on Conspiracy and Obtaining Money by False Pretences.


The accused person, sometimes in 2016 posed as a contractor and deceitfully lured the complainant into agreeing to pay the sum of N1,400,000 (One Million, Four Hundred Thousand Naira) only as a 10% contractual and facilitating fees for the contract to enable him secure a contract from the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB.

The Complainant also stated that he paid the money instalmentally by transfer from his account to that of the accused.

Count one of the charge reads: “That, you, Mallam Hassan, sometime in November, 2016 in Kaduna, within the Kaduna Judicial Division of the High Court, with the intent to defraud, obtained the sum of N1,600,000 (One Million, Six Hundred Thousand Naira) from Umarcom Global Resources Nigeria Limited, represented by Umar Mohammed Sani under the false pretence of securing contracts for them from the Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board, a pretence you knew was false and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1(1) (a) of Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act 2006 and Punishable under Section 1(3) of the Same Act”.


He pleaded not guilty to the charge against him, and the Prosecuting counsel, E.K Garba urged the court to fix a date for commencement of trial. But the Defense counsel, A. Ahmad moved for the bail of the accused person which the Judged granted.

The court granted the accused bail in the sum of One Million Naira with a surety in like sum. The surety is to own a property within the jurisdiction of the court, he must also reside within the same jurisdiction and the property must be covered with by a C of O which should be verified by the registry of the court, the EFCC and the Kaduna State Geographical Information System, KADGIS.

The case has been adjourned to the 12th of February, 2019 for commencement trial.
