Justice Maureen A. Onyetenu of the Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State has convicted and sentenced the duo of Olayiwola Oladayo Oluwatosin and Bolarinwa Adebayo (a.k.a Dr. Williams) to 21 and 27 years imprisonment respectively, on a five court charge bordering on conspiracy and obtaining money under false pretense.
Justice Onyetenu in her ruling, sentenced Olayiwola to three years on count one, five years each on counts two, three and four respectively and three years on count five, while Bolarinwa earned three years on count one, seven years each on count two, three and four respectively and three years on count five.
The sentence is to run concurrently starting from December 2, 2015 when they were first remanded in prison custody. The convicts were arraigned on December 1, 2015 and both pleaded not guilty to the 5-count charge preferred against them.
The journey to prison for the duo started following a petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, at the Ibadan Office, from a complainant (name withheld) alleging that he received phone calls from unknown persons who identified themselves as Dr. Williams and Samuel Benson.
He further alleged that the convicts convinced him that they were staff of the Nigerian Immigration Service, NIS, and capable of processing and procuring international passports for him and twelve members of his family and was later given an account number where he deposited the sum of N1,033,000.00 (One Million and Thirty Three Thousand Naira) only.
According to the petitioner, after the deposit, the phone lines of the convict were no longer connecting, it was then it dawned on him that he had been duped.
