Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai has restated the commitment of his administration to make youths self-reliant.

He spoke yesterday at the graduation of 540  youths trained under the Community Skills Development Centre (COSDEC).

The governor said the government would continue to invest in youths to make them responsible in the society.

El-Rufai, who was represented by his deputy, Barnabas Bala, stressed that the government will enhance the capacity of youths to chart better future for them and their families.

He urged some of the training organisations to absorb the graduates.

Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Tourism Mrs. Ruth Alkali said beneficiaries were mostly school leavers, almajiri, vulnerable children and persons with disabilities.

According to her, they were drawn from Kaura, Sabongari and Igabi Local Government Areas.

She said: “These young men and women would now have the opportunity to make something of their lives by becoming self-reliant. The trainings they received were in garment making, carpentry, joinery, electrical installation, hospitality, welding and fabrication, as well as office management.”

The commissioner noted that the training manual was based on the Nigerian skills qualification framework approved by the National Board for Technical Education.

“They were trained in their various trade of choice for the period of nine months after which the students went on workplace experience,” she said, adding that the target was to impact them with job opportunities and employable skills”.
