Former Lagos State Police Commissioner, Young Arabamen, is dead. Arabamen’s death was confirmed by his first son, Ose, who said he died at about 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Ose said the former police commissioner suffered a brief illness and was recuperating before he breathed his last.

He said: “My father died in his sleep. He was sick briefly and was recuperating before he died. He passed on March 14, at about 10:00 p.m. in his sleep.

“Before he went to bed, he took some soup. I will say his death was peaceful. We have not made burial arrangements yet. We are still meeting. Further actions would be communicated to the public.”

At his residence on Thursday night, sympathisers were seen walking into the compound to greet his family.

Some domestic workers beside his house told our correspondent they saw the deceased on Sunday, describing him as a gentle and good man.

According to them, he greeted everyone he saw on the street, including them, who many treated with disdain.

“That Oga was very humble. We saw him on Sunday. He greeted us. He always waved at anyone he saw on the road. He doesn’t look down on anyone.

“It was around 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday that we noticed that he had died. We saw an ambulance that came to take his body away. I think he has been sick because his driver usually took him to Police Hospital in Falomo twice a week.

As Deputy Commissioner of Police, he served as Force Police Public Relations Officer (FPPRO) between 1997 and 2000.

Arebamen was later appointed police commissioner in Lagos during the tenure of former Governor Bola Tinubu.

His sterling performance endeared him to the former governor, who appointed him Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) after his retirement from the police as Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in 2007.

Arabamen held that position till 2015.
