Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun has said farmers whose crops will be affected by the construction of the proposed airport at Wasinmi in Ewekoro Local Government Area, will be compensated soon.
The governor said N500 million had been earmarked as compensation for the affected farmers.
He said the money would be disbursed to 20 villages said to be directly affected by the airport project.
Amosun urged the villagers to accept the compensation to drive far-reaching socio-economic development in the area.
The governor, who addressed leaders of the community at the weekend, noted that the satellite imagery of buildings as well as crop enumeration had been carried out to ease the compensation plans.
According to him, all is set for the commencement of the project.
Amosun said the affected farmers would also be relocated to a more appropriate place to continue their farm businesses.
The governor said his administration would not bring hardship on the people but make life more meaningful for them.
On behalf of the villagers, the Baale of Temu in Ewekoro Local Government Area, Chief Abati Noah, hailed the governor for ensuring the development of the communities.
Abati urged the government to put measures in place to cushion the likely pains of those who would be affected by the airport project.
According to the Baale, the villagers should be compensated adequately.
