Nasarawa Assembly passes N22.2bn supplementary budget

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly on Wednesdays passed the 2017 supplementary bill of N22.2 billion.

Alhaji Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, the Speaker of the house, announced the passage on Wednesday during the house proceeding in Lafia.

He said this was to enable the executive arm of the government to execute projects that have direct bearing on the lives of its citizenry.

Balarabe commended the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation for good job and urged the executive arm to ensure judicial use of the funds and to impact positively on the lives of the people.

โ€œIf we will recall, Gov. Tanko Almakura had submitted a bill for a law to authorise the issue out of consolidated Revenue Fund of the state appropriation of N22, 269,660.819k only for the service of Nasarawa State Government.

โ€œWe approved  a supplementary Appropriation Bill of N22,269,660,819 only of which N5,487,465,231 only is for Recurrent Expenditure while N16,763,037,043 only is earmarked for Capital Expenditure.

โ€œThe supplementary budget is a result of unforeseen circumstance and unforeseen cost of governance that was not earlier captured in the past budget.

โ€œWith this, the total budget size of Nasarawa State will be N92, 241,088,415 only for 2017 fiscal year,โ€ he said.

Balarabe Abdullahi assured the people of the state of the assemblyโ€™s readiness to continue to enact laws and pass resolutions that have direct bearing on the lives of its citizenry.

The Speaker called on the people of the state to continue to live in peace and tolerate one another, to enjoy more dividend of democracy.

Earlier, Mr Tanko Tunga (APC-Awe North), the Majority Leader of the house, called on his colleagues to support his motion, to pass the bill and enable the government to carry out its responsibility effectively.

He made call while moving a motion for the passage of the supplementary bill.

Mr Peter Mbucho, (PDP-Akwanga North), the Minority Leader of the house, seconded the motion for the passage of the supplementary budget in to law.

The Speaker directed the Clerk of the house to produce a clean copy of the bill for governorโ€™s assent.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that on Dec.15, 2016 Gov. Al-Makura presented the 2017 budget proposal of N67.1 billion only to the house for consideration.

NAN also recalled that on Feb.14, 2017, the House raised the state 2017 appropriation bill of by N2.9 billion from N67.1 billion presented to the house by Al-Makura for consideration and the approval to N69.9 billion.
