Fans attending Taylor Swift’s concert in Austin got even more than what they came for.
The pop star surprised the audience with her first-ever performance of “This Is What You Came For” the song at the center of her summer feud with ex-boyfriend Calvin Harris.
Swift who wrote the wildly popular track for Harris using a pseudonym while they were still dating urged the 80,000-person crowd at the Circuit of the Americas to sing along as she began playing a stripped down version of the EDM hit on the piano.
“I’ve never played this song live before,” Swift told the screaming audience on Saturday. “But if you know it, maybe you could sing along, and then I could get to know what that feels like to hear it sung back to me.”
The song, which features Rihanna, became a major point of controversy in July after Swift’s rep confirmed that the singer had written Harris’ chart-topping single under the name Nils Sjöberg.
Harris, 32, responded to the revelation which came mere weeks after their breakup by uncorking a fuming Twitter rant bashing Swift for making their secret public.
Harris earned Best Male Video honors for the song at the MTV Video Music Awards in August, but he noticeably didn’t thank Swift who also provided backing vocals for her contributions in his pre-recorded acceptance speech.
Swift’s concert in the Texas capital marked her first performance of 2016. She wrapped up her sprawling, critically acclaimed “1989 World Tour” last December after seven months of shows.
