Two airline pilots were arrested on a charge of operating a plane while under the influence after allegedly trying to fly drunk from Scotland to the United States, according to police in Scotland.

Glasgow police said that they have arrested the two United Airlines pilots, who are 35 and 45 years old, as they were preparing to fly from Glasgow Airport to Newark Airport on Saturday around 9:00 a.m.

The pilots were removed from the commercial flight as the 141 passengers were boarding the plane. Both pilots are citizens of the United States.

They are being held in Glasgow, where they will be charged with offenses under the Railways and Transport/Safety Act 2003.

United Airlines said that the pilots were placed on leave pending the outcome of the case.
