Britney Spears may be a world-famous popstar with a Vegas residency but that doesn’t mean she still doesn’t get nervous about performing — especially when it comes to the 2016 VMAs, where she’s slated to perform her new single, “Make Me,” on Sunday, Aug. 28.
During an interview on 103.5 KTU’s Cubby and Carolina In the Morning radio show on Friday, Aug. 26, the mom of two confessed, “I think there’s something in the air at the VMAs. It’s like electric. I can’t really explain it.” She continued, “Every time I’ve performed there, its always been one of those really big, nerve-wracking experiences, and the people that come — those celebrities — are just so much fun and different. โฆ I still get very nervous.”
And we can’t blame her! It’s been nine years since the single star’s 2007 VMAs disaster when she lip synched (and quite poorly at that) “Gimme More,” stumbled around the stage and looked like she was in a daze.
But as we know — if Brit can get through 2007, she can get through anything โฆ
The details of the “Toxic” singer’s performance have been kept secret, but we do know she will be singing “Make Me,” the first single off her newly released ninth studio album, Glory. She’ll also be performing with rapper G-Eazy, and we’re expecting a rousing, high energy spectacle from the entertainer in true VMA form.
Before her 2007 debacle, the 34-year-old was known for memorable VMA performances. In 2001, the hot lady draped a python around her during a performance of “I’m a Slave 4 U,” and in 2003 she shared a much-photographed lip lock with Madonna.
The 2016 MTV Video Music Awards hits the small screen on Sunday, August 28, at 9 p.m. ET.
