A young boy is dead after he fell off a boat and was struck by its propeller, according to police in Maryland.
Maryland Natural Resources Police said that 9-year-old Kaden Frederick of Howell, New Jersey, was one of four people sitting with their feet dangling from the boat, which was rented for the day.
Around 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, the boy fell into the water and went under the boat. He was not wearing a life jacket. Two nurses, an emergency medical technician and two off-duty police officers happened to be on a nearby boat.
They quickly boarded the boyโs boat and tried to revive him after he was pulled out of the water by his family members.
However, the child was pronounced dead at the scene. It is illegal to sit on a boat with feet dangling over the water. So far, no charges have been filed.
