A cafe in Indonesia, is serving customers’ food in toilet bowls in order to promote toilet use.
Cafe Jamban in Semarang, installed toilet bowls around tables, which customers use instead of chairs.
They then use miniature toilet bowls to serve food swimming in murky
gravy along with brightly colored cocktails. So far, the restaurant only
hosts small groups who book in advance.
The owner of the restaurant, Budi Laksono, is trying to educate people about sanitation and encourage greater use of toilets.
Millions of people in the country are still living below the poverty
line, and the country has one of the highest rates of open defecation in
the world.
Defecating outside and not in proper toilets, raises the risk of
spreading disease. Muslim clerics believe that the restaurant is
inappropriate and against Islamic law.
