A German mother was arrested on a charge of murder after killing her newborn
babies and keeping the bodies in her apartment, according to police in
Germany.
Wallenfels police said that they have arrested 45-year-old Andrea
Goeppner, and her husband, 55-year-old Johann Goeppner, after police
found the remains of eight babies in their home.
Andrea was charged with murder and Johann was charged with complicity.
The mother faces up to 15 years in prison while the father faces up to
three years in prison.
According to the police investigation, the mother given birth to each of
the eight babies at home, and wrapped them in a hand towel.
She promptly suffocated each baby, and then placed the body in a plastic
bag or container. She then hid the remains in the apartment.
The incident came to light after a neighbor called the police to say
that the woman was constantly pregnant, but no babies were seen at the
home.
Although they did not want more children, the couple did not use
contraception, and Andrea was continuously pregnant over a 10 year
period.
Prosecutors told the court that Johann has the power to stop the killings, but he simply did not care.
