Parents were shocked to learn that police were called to a school to question their son during a class party. Police detained the third grader over a remark he made while eating a brownie, which was given to him by his classmate.

The incident occurred at the William P. Tatem Elementary School in Collingswood in New Jersey.

The teacher called police after claiming that the student made a comment
over the dark color of the cake, and the teacher deemed it to be
racist.

According to the child’s mother Stacy Dos Santos, the boy missed the
last day of school as he was too traumatized to return after the
incident.

Many parents who have children at the school, feel that the
administration overreacted by calling police over a comment that a child
made to another.

Police informed the parents that the incident had been referred to the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency.

That agency may now investigate the family. The boy’s parents said that
they will put him into another school for the coming year.
