Police have launched an investigation after receiving a tip that an inmate was out selling drugs while on the work release program.

The work release programs were designed to allow some prisoners to leave their confinement to work, but they have to return to prison when their shift ends.

Lamarcus Dontay Brown, 31, of Florida, who was in prison for a previous drug-related charge, found himself a “job” selling drugs while out of prison for work.

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit wrote on their Facebook page that Brown was arrested after a month-long investigation.

According to police, the ECSO SWAT Team and Special Investigations Unit went to the residence and found 64 grams of cocaine, paraphernalia used to package and distribute cocaine and $2,200 in cash.

Brown who was convicted of felonies 14 times, was arrested on charges of trafficking cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Brown now faces additional jail time, and he is being held on $100,000 bond, according to jail records.
