A porn star has filed a federal lawsuit against Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook, for ruining her reputation.
Paree La’Tiejira, who goes by the name Lady Paree, is seeking $1 billion in compensation.
The 41-year-old woman, who was born female, claims that Zuckerberg allowed people to spread lies about her on Facebook.
The former porn star said that a male porn star named Mark C. Carriere, wrote a post in Facebook, claiming that La’Tiejira was born a man.
The post went viral on Facebook. This not only hurt her reputation, but La’Tiejira was assaulted, cut with a knife and she received death threats from angry fans who falsely thought that they were deceived by her.
After she was cut by an angry fan, La’Tiejira needed 150 stitches and cosmetic surgery. The scar on the left side of her face is still visible.
La’Tiejira sued Leisure Time Entertainment and Carriere in an Indiana court, accusing them of posting the false and defamatory statements about her.
During the trial, the court found that La’Tiejira was in fact born a woman and she had never underwent surgery to alter her biological sex.
La’Tiejira was awarded $2.5 million in compensatory damages and $50,000 in punitive damages in that case.
She thought that she can put this issue behind her, but she was wrong.
La’Tiejira, who is now unemployed, claims that the defendants continued to post the false statements that she was born a man through Facebook, which is operated and managed by Zuckerberg, who did not take any action to stop the lies.
“Such intentional, malicious, or grossly negligent publication by defendants has caused her economic and compensatory damages, as well as emotional distress and physical pain so severe that she has had to seek professional assistance to cope with the damages caused by Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg,” court documents state.
