The 75-year-old icon was announced as the winner of the coveted accolade in October and even though he will not travel to Stockholm, Sweden for the ceremony on December 10, Dylan feels honoured to have been given the award, according to Rolling Stones star Ronnie Wood.
Recalling a recent encounter with Dylan at the Desert Trip mega-festival โ at which the two acts played on the same bill โ Wood shared: โHe kept calling me Sir Ronnie, and when (bandmate Charlie Watts) walked in he said, โAnd Sir Charlie, too! Everyone from England is a sir, right?โ
โAnd we said, โYeah Bob, but itโs not like โฆ itโs really good about your Nobel prize.โ And he went, โYou think so? Itโs good, huh?โ And we said, โYou deserve it.โ And he said, โThatโs great โ thanks.โ He didnโt really know how to accept it but he thought he had done something pretty good.โ
Fellow Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards also admitted to being blown away by Dylanโs on-stage performance at Desert Trip.
He told The Guardian newspaper: โI did notice that Bob was standing up at the piano like Little Richard and heโs got this little flash Nudie s**t going down โ s**t, dog, go for it.
โMick (Jagger) and I were watching Bobโs first set and it sounded good, the band was great, and I said, โMick, notice โ very little concession to showbusiness,โ and Mick went, โYeah, right.โ โ
Meanwhile, Watts admitted to being surprised by how much he enjoyed performing with the band โ which also features Darryl Jones โ at the Desert Trip and Glastonbury festivals.
Charlie said: โGlastonbury was the first one that I said, โWe donโt want to do that, itโs a load of crap,โ and actually it was very nice.
โIโd never go to see a band in a bloody field playing โ I wouldnโt go to a stadium to see a band either โ but Glastonbury and the desert thing were fun.โ
