Former Military President Ibrahim Babangida yesterday declared the nation is in need of a new narrative that could address the mirage of challenges facing it.
Throwing his support behind the political ideology of a new Nigeria proposed by a presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ahmed Makarfi, Babangida said younger politicians like Makarfi could change the narratives and restore hope of a new Nigeria.
Speaking at his Hilltop mansion residence in Minna when he received Makarfi, who paid him a courtesy call, the former Military President stressed that the nation needs an articulated vision of a new Nigeria.
โWithout fear or favour, you have made my day. We need a new narrative in this country.
โWe canโt go on like we used to. We need an articulated vision of a new Nigeria. I am not surprised that you give such narrative of the country,โ he stressed.
Babangida noted the Presidential hopeful has the capacity to deliver his vision especially with his experience as a lawmaker and former governor.
โYou did well in the legislature and you handled well one the most civilised and sophisticated states in Nigeria.
โYou have my blessings and I will look forward to hearing from you on some of these articulations I heard from you today. Honestly I feel so proud.
โI was almost losing hope in the country, as a military man I wouldnโt. But having heard from the distinguished senator, I have become more enlightened and emboldened to say we have hope in Nigeria,โ Babangida told Makarfi.
