A 29-year-old teacher, David Ikejiobi, has been remanded in prison for allegedly defiling his pupil.
An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, ruled yesterday, the accused be remanded in Kirikiri Prison.
Chief Magistrate P. E. Nwaka refused to take his plea.
The accused, of 13, Kekereowo Street, Ilasamaja, Lagos, is being tried for rape.
Prosecutor Christopher John told the court the offence was committed in March at 25, Abiola Alao Street, Ijeshatedo, Lagos.
He said the accused always followed the 13- year-old girl to her home after school.
“The girl’s guardians always return in the evening and the girl gets home before them and opens the door with the extra key in her possession.
“The accused knew about the arrangement and followed her home. He defiled the girl on three occasions and warned her not to tell anyone,” John said.
He added that the girl’s grandmother saw changes in her behaviour when she spent holidays with her and she asked questions.
“It was then the girl confessed to the grandmother and told her about the accused.”
The offence contravenes Section 259 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Nwaka adjourned the case till September 3 for mention.
