The Senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun East, Deola Shosanwo, has engaged in arguments with an INEC official.
The candidate, who argued with an electoral officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission at the Ijebu Ode collation centre for the district, wondered why results in Ilese, a ward in Ijebu East, were computed in the INEC broadsheet.
Shosanwo said party agents at the end of elections were told that results from the ward had been “cancelled after the report was mutilated.”
He said, “On our own result sheet, elections for Senate and House of Representatives were cancelled for Ilese. We really did not understand why; we came here seeking explanation for the cancellation.
“On getting here, we were told that one of the INEC officials mutilated the result sheet.
“However, the INEC collation officer said that reason was not genuine. He ordered that another result sheet should be sent to the ward for another result to be written.
“The problem is that what we have on our own result sheet is different from the one INEC is showing us.
“From what we can see, they have filled results for Ilese for House of Representatives, but left the Senate blank.
“If they are reconsidering using the votes there, they should fill for both,” the candidate said.
The electoral officer declined comment when approached by reporters.
He was, however, overheard saying that he would collate the results in two parts: one with Ilese and the other without the ward.
“People took their time to come out for the elections and we cannot just cancel their results,” he added.
