The Plateau State Police Command on Sunday described as untrue rumour making the rounds on social media that bandits attacked travellers along the Anguldi Junction in the Jos South Local Government Area.

Dismissing the rumour in a statement by its Spokesman, Mathias Tyopev, the state police command said it was the handiwork of mischief-makers who were unhappy with the peaceful conduct of the people of the state during Saturday’s elections.

The statement by the police came few hours after the Independent National Electoral Commission ordered fresh elections in some polling units in Jos South Local Government Area and other places due to clashes and late arrival of election materials.

The commission’s  Head, Voter Education and Publicity in the state, Osaretin Imahiyereobo, told journalists on Sunday in Jos, that the four polling units where elections were rescheduled  included  two polling units in Attakar, one in Zawan B Ward, and another in Dadin-Kowa, in Riyom and Jos South Local Government Area. The violence recorded on Saturday created tension in the affected communities

Imahiyereobo said, “The police command debunks the false information trending on social media that some people are killing commuters at Anguldi Junction in the Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State. The command therefore states that there is no iota of truth in the rumour and call on members of the public to disregard it.’’
