The Lagos State Local Government Service Commission (LGSC) has warned members of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in the state to conduct themselves in a peaceful and responsible manner during the forthcoming unionโs elections across the 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas (LCDA) in the state or face stiff sanctions.
The commissioner representing the Badagry Division on the commission and leader of this yearโs monitoring delegation to the local governments in the state, Mr Babs Akinyanmi, gave the warning during the delegationโs visit to the Badagry Local Government during the week.
He said automatic dismissal awaits any member or group of people found to have caused a breach of peace during the forthcoming elections in the state.
โThe commission will not condone any irresponsible conduct from any member or group of people during the elections no matter how highly placed. We expect free and fair democratic elections to choose your new executives that will run the affairs of your various local governments in the state for the next two years, hence all hands must be on deck to have a peaceful transition, โhe said.
Akinyanmi, who noted that the local governments in the state have not been getting their fair shares of the revenues generated internally, attributed this ugly situation to some fraudulent employees who were in the habit of cheating their local governments.
He pointed out that anybody caught to have defrauded the local governments shall be summarily dealt with, according to the civil service rules.
Earlier in his own contributions at the meeting a member of the delegation and the commissioner representing the Ikeja Division, Mr Yinka Ajomale, revealed that some heads of departments in some local governments would be redeployed to the service commission as sanctions for gross indiscipline to serve as a deterrent to others who might want to emulate them.
He advised local government employees in the state to be punctual and dedicated to their duties to facilitate effective service delivery in their various local governments.
