The acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu on Thursday, September 19, 2019 charged members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, to live a corrupt free life while appreciating the fact that they are the window by which the masses see the nation’s future either from a positive or negative perspective.

Magu made the charge through the Head of Operations of the South East Zone, Usman Imam while receiving a delegation of the EFCC Anti-corruption Community Development Service (CDS) group from Enugu East Local Government Area of the state.

The visitors were led by Chukwudi Joseph. C, who represented the President of the CDS group, Offia Joseph Tochukwu.

In his welcome remarks, the Zonal Head congratulated the Corps members on taking up the responsibility of fighting corruption in this period of value erosion and assured them of EFCC’s continuous support in helping the Anti-corruption CDS group achieve their aims in the area of service within their service year.

Imam however reminded the corps members that the fight against corruption is not fought only with words but by actions as members of the public are always watching to see if the characters of the anti-corruption advocates matches their words.

“In this fight against corruption, where our effort is to change attitudes and enforce laws, words are not just enough. Your character and actions must match your words because the public like children are watching to learn from your character not just your words”, Imam said.

He noted that the reason for the CDS groups was to use Corps members to take responsibilities and create positive impacts among those they come in contact with especially young students and rural dwellers who needed to know the causes and effects of corruption.

“Here at EFCC, our efforts are geared towards changing the direction of things positively in the society and Nigeria in general and the way to go is to inculcate in you the right values so that you can as well affect those around you, and in doing so, perhaps have a better Nigeria in future.

Leader of the delegation, Chukwudi Joseph.C thanked the zonal head for making out time to address them despite his tight schedule and promised that they will lead by example to make the nation great again.

The visit is one of the numerous sensitization and enlightenment efforts of the Commission in reaching out to critical stakeholders especially pupils and students of tertiary institutions as well as young graduates. The zone had earlier held similar interractions with EFCC Anti-corruption CDS Corps members from Nkanu West last month.
