The Patriotic Forum of Niger Delta (PFND) has called on lawmakers in the nine Houses of Assembly in the Niger Delta to enact anti-grazing law to end the incessant herdsmen/farmers clashes.

A statement on Sunday by its Chairman Owo Udoh and Secretary Daniel Wilson, warned that its members would no longer tolerate herdsmen’s killing of farmers in Akwa Ibom State and other parts of Niger Delta.

It noted that further killing of farmers by herders would leave the youths with no option but to ask them to leave Akwa Ibom and the region.

PFND said the warning followed the recent killing of a farmer, Lucky Christopher Udoakpan, in Nkek, Ukanafun Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, after the earlier killing of a man in Mkpat Enin, also of Akwa Ibom.

The statement reads: “The forum, with over 380,000 members across the nine states of the Niger Delta, advises the  Akwa Ibom State government and governments of other states  to set up forest guards to enforce the anti-grazing law.

“Members of the forest guards must also monitor the movement of cattle and ensure that no cattle will come into the Niger Delta through grazing, except by truck and straight to the markets.”
