Peoples Democratic Party’s chieftain, Osita Chidoka has affirmed that his party has unanimously agreed to accept the unfavorable ruling of the Supreme court that upheld the election of President Muhammadu Buhari at the February 23 polls last Wednesday.

Although the party cannot find the reasoning in the judgment of the apex court but decided to move on in order to build their internal democracy, he added in an interview he had with Channels TV and aired on Friday.

‘Both Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi are democrats. The party is also a democrat. We think it’s a strange decision and cannot find the reasoning behind the judgment but we accept. It is behind us now. The key issue is about building institutions in Nigeria.

‘PDP is looking for hope. The Chairman of the party,  Uche Secondus will be unfolding a series of programme the party is getting involved with such as online registration, restructuring of the party, rebuilding our party infrastructure all the way to the ward level.

‘That will keep us engaged and also enhance the internal democracy of the party. We will be sure we have a party that will be strong enough to confront other elections ahead’, he disclosed.

‘The PDP is now beginning to understand the importance of internal unity which will turn out to be a reference point as we head to 2023

The former Minister of Aviation was the PDP’s 62nd witness at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.

While the Supreme Court panel, led by Chief Justice of Nigeria Tanko Muhammad is yet to give explicit reasons for the ruling in favor of the All Progressive Party, APC, he further maintained that the opposition party had raised fundamental issues in their petition but unmerited by the court, hence dismissed.

‘If the INEC has said you should use the card reader, you should comply and never hide under any sort of technicalities. If judges do not see anything wrong in the number of people that died in Rivers and Delta and all the violence unleashed across various states of the country, these show that modality, sometimes, isn’t about what is right but about power.

‘Even International observers adjudged that the last election wasn’t as fair as that of 2015. I think the court needed to reign on the politicians that election cannot be won by force but democratically’

In challenging the election of President Buhari, he said the party was ‘only saying every election should be an improvement of the past’.
