Man with explosives held in Kaduna church

A man was apprehended while attempting to bomb the Living Faith Church, otherwise known as Winners Chapel in Sabon Tasha, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The suspected bomber was caught with an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).

The suspect was said to be monitored on a CCTV camera while carrying a bag containing explosives into the church auditorium.

Police spokesman DSP Yakubu Sabo, who confirmed the arrest to newsmen said, the suspect was being interrogated at the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

A source said the suspect successfully gained access and was seated before he was noticed.

The source said, โ€œThe suspectโ€™s bag was searched, and an explosive device was found in it.โ€

โ€œThe suspect had been handed over to the police and moved to the Sabon Tasha Division of the Nigeria Police Force,โ€ he added.

Another church member, Moses Benjamin told reporters that it was a member of the church who observed the suspect and alerted the church security team, during the churchโ€™s first service.

โ€œHe was then approached by the security team who immediately raised alarm and the suspect was apprehended.โ€ He said.

The Kaduna State Police Commandโ€™s PPRO however gave the name of the suspect as Nathaniel Samuel.

DSP Sabo said, โ€œThe police has arrested one Nathaniel Samuel with some suspected Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) inside Living Faith Church, Sabon Tasha while the church was in session.

โ€œThe suspect is currently being interrogated at the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

โ€œWe will come up with details later,โ€ he said.
