Rehabilitation work on the Ilorin-Omu-Aran-Egbe Federal High linking Kwara and Kogi states is on course, Kwara state Federal Controller, Works, Ministry of Works and Housing Wasiu Atitebi has said.

Engr. Atitebi added that the contractor handling the project CGC Nigeria Limited has completed about 13 kilometers part of the road.

The controller told THE NATION in an interview that the contractor had done quality job with the use of quality materials.

He said: “About 13 kilometers as regards that road have been completed. From surveys, base, first coat, asphaltic binder layers and asphaltic wearing which is the second layers. All the drainages and culverts have been completed up to Idofian, Ifelodun local government area of Kwara state.

“Then beyond Idofian, the contractor is also working seriously on drainage extension. The contractor is focusing on that drainage works for now before continuing with the main carriage way.

“The contractor had to prepare and plan on the main work which they intend to commence any moment now. It is always better to ensure that the drainage is already in place. It makes the work better to address the drainage requirements of the particular section of the road.

“By the time they move in it will be very fast when they start work on road proper. They are very much on the site too and fully mobilized on that drainage work. Work has not stopped from any of the sites.”

On Ilorin-Jebba road, Engr. Atitebi noted that “the rehabilitation of Ilorin to Jebba old road has been completed 100 percent. It is about 75 kilometres. In addition to the rehabilitation, the dualisation of the same road has been awarded by the Federal Government and work has
commenced in earnest.

“The contractor has been fully mobilized on that project. The first and second layers of asphalt with the surface dressed shoulders of six kilometers of the dualisation has been completed. A number of culverts and kilometers of drainages have also been completed.”
