COVID-19: Police arrest 1872 for violating lockdown order in Lagos

Lagos State Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana has disclosed that the Police Command have arrested 1,872 people in the last two weeks in the state.

He disclosed in a statement on Sunday, that the suspects were apprehended for violating the COVID-19 lockdown order.

Elkana said they were charged to mobile court by the commandโ€™s legal team at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Yaba.

โ€œ1,833 accused persons pleaded guilty to the one count charge against them and were convictedโ€.

โ€œThe remaining 39 accused persons pleaded not guilty and were remanded in police custody until the next adjourned date for hearing,โ€ he said.

He also said that 704 commercial motorcycles were impounded for violation of the suspension order on their operation issued by the state governor.

Additionally, 73 tricycles were impounded for violating the curfew.
