Edo discharges one more COVID-19 patient, records 7th death

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has said that the state has discharged one more coronavirus (COVID-19) patient from its isolation centre and recorded one COVID-19 related death in the state, as confirmed cases of the virus have risen to 191.

The governor, who said this in a statement, charged residents to turn up for screening and testing for COVID-19, which is ongoing across the 18 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state.

According to the governor, โ€œWe have discharged one more COVID-19 patient from our isolation centres, bringing the total number of those discharged to 58. Sadly, we recorded a death, making it the 7th fatality. It is important to visit the screening centres in the 18 LGAs to know your status. Stay safe.โ€

Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Patrick Okundia, said the state has recorded 191 confirmed cases of COVID-19 spread across 13 LGAs in the state.

He said the affected LGAs include Oredo, Esan West, Egor, Ovia North East, Ikpoba-Okha, Uhunmwode, Etsako Central, Esan South East, Akoko-Edo, Esan Central, Ovia South West, Owan East and Esan North East.

He reiterated the need for residents to visit the screening and testing centres across the 18 local councils in the state to get screened and know their status, to ensure early detection and treatment of COVID-19.

Noting that it was imperative for residents to adhere to government regulations on safety and good hygiene to halt the spread of the pandemic, he said: โ€œEdo people are enjoined to wash their hands regularly with soap under running water or use alcohol-based sanitisers; wear face masks while in public and avoid gathering of more than 20 persons in a public places, among other guidelines.โ€
