The National Assembly Commission (NASC) has retired Clerk of the National Assembly (CNA), Alhaji Mohammed Sani-Omolori.

Sani-Omolori was retired alongside Secretary of the Commission, Mr Olusanya Ajakaiye and 150 others in a letter.

The Commission declared any staff, who has attained retirement age of 35 years in Service or 60 should leave and would receive their retirement letter soon.

A statement by the Commission dated 15th July 2020 titled: โ€œThe National Assembly Service Commission Approves the Retirement age for the staff of the National Assembly Service as 35 years of Service or 60 years of age whichever comes first reads:

โ€œPursuant to its mandate as provided in the National Assembly Service Commission Act 2014 (as amended), the National Assembly Service Commission at its 497th meeting held on Wednesday 15th July 2020 has approved the retirement age for the staff of the National Assembly Service at 35 years of Service or 60 Years of age whichever comes first.

โ€ To this effect the Commission has approved the immediate retirement of staff of the National Assembly Service who have already attained the retirement age of 35 years of service or 60 years of age.

โ€œRetirement letters would be issued to the affected staff accordingly โ€

The statement was signed by the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Engr Ahmed Kadi Amshi.

Retirement age of staff of the National Assembly had been contentious with a civil society group, Next Level Due Process, filing a suit at an Abuja Federal High Court to challenge legality of the upward review of retirement age of National Assembly staff.

Sani-Omolori and Ajakaiye, due for retirement and about 150 other staff members, would have benefitted from the controversial condition of service, which raised the retirement age of staff from 60 to 65 and working years from 35 to 40.

The suit was instituted against the Senate President Ahmad Lawan, Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, the National Assembly Service Commission and some others.
