Acting Chief Judge of Kogi, Justice Henry Olusuyi said on Friday that the state Judiciary was working towards automating the filing of court processes to ease things for counsel, litigants and other stakeholders.

Speaking while receiving Judiciary Correspondents who paid him a visit, Olusuyi said the new arrangement would enable the filing of court processes without necessarily going to the Court Registry.

According to him, the state governor has pledged to support the judiciary to enable it provide justice to the people without any stress.

He also hinted that the state Judiciary would soon adopt measures to fast-track dispensation of criminal matters in a bid to decongest Correctional Centres.

He said the disruption of global setting by the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic had affected every sector, including the judiciary, and had therefore necessitated restructuring of the system.

The Chief Judge stated that under the new dispensation, the judiciary would adopt non-custodial sentences as alternative punishment as much as possible.

“We want to make sure that where we can do non-custodial sentences, we will go along that line; it is not every case that will end up in Correctional Centres; we can apply non-custodial punishments,” he said.
