Wolves have announced that Julen Lopetegui will become their new head coach following the dismissal of Bruno Lage last month.

Lopetegui, 56, has an impressive CV after enjoying spells in charge of Porto, Spain, Real Madrid and Sevilla.

He will take the reins at Molineux on Monday, November 14, subject to a work permit.

Lopetegui’s first game in charge will follow the World Cup on Monday, December 26, when his new side will travel to Everton for a Boxing Day clash.

Under-18s coach Steve Davis will remain in interim charge for this afternoon’s game against Brighton, next Tuesday’s Carabao Cup tie against Leeds and the home fixture with Arsenal on Saturday, November 12.

Wolves chairman Jeff Shi said: “Julen is a top coach, with excellent experience at an elite level of the game, and we are very pleased to have agreed a deal to bring him to Wolves.

“Since the very beginning, Julen has been our No1 choice to manage Wolves, and we look forward to welcoming him and his team when they join us in the coming weeks.”

Lopetegui’s greatest success to date was lifting the Europa League with Sevilla in 2019-20.

But he was dismissed from his managerial role at the Andalucian outfit earlier this season after a disappointing start to the campaign.

Now, he will take on a new challenge with Wolves, a side who find themselves 19th in the Premier League table, two points from safety.
