Detectives attached to the anti-fraud unit of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, have arrested 12 suspects over alleged sacking of villagers at Joga Owode via Atan, Ogun State, and unlawfully possessing their lands.
The suspects, Afolayan Fagbohun, Hassan Durojaye, Daniel Fagbohun, Oluwaseun Odeyemi, Gbenga Shokoya, Biodun Bisiriyu, Tajudeen Sanusi, Adetoye Sunday, Abiodun Toyibi, Danile Adetunji, Olaleye Ayodeji and Segun Sofuyi were arrested following a petition from one Alhaji Sulaimon Adelakun to the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) FCID, Abuja.
They were accused of riotous demolition, threat to life, unlawful possession of firearms and breach of peace after they allegedly led armed hoodlums numbering about 150 to attack and chase the villagers away on February 3.
According to the petitioner, they forcefully took over the entire village and riotously demolished some houses, structures valued at about N50million.
He also alleged that they stationed armed thugs at nooks and crannies of the village threaten and scare the residents.
Confirming their arrest, the CP Anti-fraud, O.Y. Oladimeji, said two single-barrels, two Dane guns and various other dangerous weapons were recovered from the suspects, adding that their accomplices fled the scene.
He said efforts have been intensified to arrest those on the run, adding that they would be charged to court for conspiracy, forcible entry, riotous demolition, threat to life, unlawful possession of firearms and breach of public peace.
