President Bola Tinubu has directed that all requests for security cover by ministers and other VIPs be routed through the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) for personal clearance, as part of efforts to streamline security operations.
Speaking off-script before the Federal Executive Council (FEC) went into a closed session, Tinubu instructed the Minister of Interior to collaborate with the IGP and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to replace police officers currently deployed on special duties.
The president also tasked the National Security Adviser (NSA) and the Department of State Services (DSS) with forming a committee to review existing security arrangements. He stressed that Nigeria continues to face persistent threats from kidnapping and terrorism, making it essential to maximise all available security assets.
Livestock Reform Agenda
Turning to agricultural policy, Tinubu directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to work with the National Economic Council (NEC) to identify grazing reserves that can be rehabilitated into ranches or livestock settlements.
He said areas prone to conflict should be transformed into hubs of economic opportunity, contributing to long-term prosperity and reducing tensions linked to open grazing.
